About

Welcome to the collected creative efforts of one of many London-based New Media wankers. New media is like old media, but it’s accessed via a flickering screen. It’s the present and the future!

Self-interview:

What is the trait you most deplore in others?

Failure to anticipate obvious consequences. In its most benign form, this is people who block entrances to train platforms with their bodies and bags. In its worst manifestation, it’s people whose vanity causes real people to suffer and die.

What was your most embarrassing moment?

Singing an entire verse of a song catastrophically off-key in front of a couple of thousand people, then seeing it on YouTube. There are mitigating circumstances, but telling you them seems desperate.

What is your most treasured possession?

My lovely, battered old Gibson Les Paul guitar.

Where would you like to live?

London, Amsterdam, or anywhere in Thailand.

What would your super power be?

The ability to alter my perception of the passing of time at will.

What makes you depressed?

The suspicion that life is an uphill struggle that isn’t worth the climb.

What is your favourite book?

Joseph Heller, told by an interviewer that he had never produced anything else as good as Catch-22, famously responded “Who has?”

What is your favourite smell?

Creosote.

What is the greatest love of your life?

Music.

Which living person do you most despise, and why?

Tony Blair, for reasons that I would hope are obvious.

What does love feel like?

The yearning for exclusive, eternal blissful intimacy.

If you could go back in time, where would you go?

‘May you be live in interesting times’ is an ancient Chinese curse. There’s no time like the present, but the Dutch Golden Age would be an interesting period to live through.

What keeps you awake at night?

A vivid imagination.

Who would you invite to your dream dinner party?

Joseph Heller, Kurt Vonnegut, John Lennon, AC Grayling and Bill Hicks.

What was your worst job ever?

Clipping lipsticks onto a display stand for £3 an hour.

If you could edit your past, what would you change?

I would have been on better terms with a friend of mine who died before we could work things out.

How do you relax?

I play the guitar.
